Apple Shares tvOS 27.2 Release Notes With List of New Features

Tuesday October 27, 2026 4:16 pm PDT by Joe Rossignol

tvOS 27.2 was released on Monday for the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) and newer, but the Apple TV does not show release notes for software updates in the Settings app. Instead, Apple periodically updates a support document outlining what is new in tvOS updates, and the release notes for tvOS 27.2 are now available.

Note that Apple never released a tvOS 27.1 version, so tvOS 27.2 is the first Apple TV software update since tvOS 27 was released in September.

Apple says tvOS 27.2 includes a few FaceTime enhancements, plus the ability to shuffle through different screen saver categories. In addition, the Find My app now supports the Siri Remote (2nd generation) and later, but Precision Finding is limited to the Siri Remote (4th generation). The update also contains bug fixes and security patches.

Here are Apple's full tvOS 27.2 release notes:

This update brings new ways to stay connected with FaceTime, personalize your screen saver, and locate your Siri Remote with Find My, along with bug fixes and security updates for your Apple TV 4K.

FaceTime

FaceTime links make it easier to join calls directly from your Apple TV.

Sign language interpreter and captioning support lets you add third-party services to your calls.

Screen Savers

Photo personalization lets you use your iPhone to choose specific photos for your screen saver without sharing your full library with Apple TV.

Shuffle option lets you enjoy different screen saver categories as your Apple TV cycles through them.

Find My

Find My support lets you locate your Siri Remote (2nd generation) or later using your iPhone.

Apple said Siri AI will be available on the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) and newer, but this functionality is not yet enabled on these models on tvOS 27.2. The new Apple TV 4K (4th generation) launches on Friday, November 13, and Siri AI is one of its headline new features, so perhaps the feature will come to older models closer to then.

not buying an Apple TV until hdmi audio passthrough is enabled (which is probably never, lol). For the premium Apple charges now you’d think they could sort out licensing for just pennies per unit for what is just a software limitation, but hey... maybe it'd need a 'Pro' tag and an even heftier price hike to gain it

the power on & resume last input being removed for 27 has burdened my senior parent so much.

i know it’s only one more button press. but the routine change has made MY days worse because i’ve heard nothing but complaints since. EVERY DAY.

The people making these changes must have short attention spans. I'm old enough to remember how, once I learned how to program my VCR, I was good for years. The user interface never changed. People are bickering on social media about how Apple changed the color of the Music app icon from red to white. If it doesn't matter, then why did they change it? Is this all being done to drive us mad? We have enough to deal with in our lives without having to relearn how to use the things we already knew how to use. /endrant

Especially considering the hardware has been ready for more than a year. They were just waiting on the new Siri. It should have begun shipping as soon as it was announced. Instead we have to wait till mid-November for some reason.

This is not true. It's a rumor/myth that has been debunked.
[LIST=1]
* The new Apple TV has last year's A19 chip. Apple never puts the latest chip in these. If these were ready and sitting in a warehouse for over a year, they would have had the A18 or A17 chip instead.
* The 2nd and 3rd gen Apple TV 4K will also be getting the new Siri. There's nothing special about Siri AI on the new one that they needed to wait. The old ones will be able to do the same things.

I tested Find My on my iPhone 17PM to locate my ATV 4K (3rd Gen) remote. When I was about six feet away, it said the remote was Far, and when I got closer it said Nearby, and when I was about a foot away, it said Within Reach. It can't make the remote play a sound, but maybe the 4th gen remote can?
